Warning: Please don't hand over a found parrot without concrete proof of ownership and remember that you are not obliged to relinquish the bird until fully satisfied with the proof. No one has the right to enter your property, not even the police without a search warrent and then not without just cause. We have received several reports of people claiming a found bird without proof of identity/ownership, and much to the regret of the persons temporarily sheltering the bird until rightfully claimed, they have with unease relinquished the bird. If a report of a lost and found bird is through any type of register, like The National Lost, Found and Theft Register for Parrots, it is the operator's responsibility to ensure that the rightful owner can prove ownership and that those details are shared with the person holding the bird. If this isn't done, then we advise you to hold the bird until you have the relevant proof.
Please note: It does not mean that just because someone is a member of the Parrot Society that they are bona fide. NLPR does not support the Parrot Society in any shape or form for reason of its lack of ethical conduct.
